How can I work out without going to the gym?

I’m glad to hear that you have decided to start working out.

And you’ll be glad to know that there are tons of effective ways to help you keep in shape without going to the gym (or at least, spending a bunch on the membership).

Below are my top favorite ways to exercise at home. They, either cost little expense or nothing, but are very good at burning calories and keep you healthy.

Swimming

Not only be a good way to cool off on burning-hot summer days, but swimming is also ideal to transform your body.

What makes it better than running is you can burn the same number of calories without the impact. It’s also highly recommended for people who have been suffering painful joints or injuries.

If you’re a beginner swimmer, try a life vest, kickboard, or pool noodle. It will keep you afloat while swimming laps in the pool. Begin with 15 to 20 minute swims every other day and then gradually increase the amount of time.

Here are some extra tips to help lose weight and tone up better by swimming:

  • Step outside your comfort zone, try to swim harder and faster (but still as your body allows)
  • Before having your breakfast, take a morning swim
  • Modify your swim routine to exercise different muscle groups of yours

Cycling

I understand that some people don’t prefer water activities so how about cycling?

Although speaking of weight loss, running burns more calories than cycling, if you cycle faster and for longer amounts of time, the energy burnt can eventually meet.

The result will also be better if you cycle uphill.

The point is cycling is gentler on your joints and muscles, making it suitable for everyone, especially if you have health issues related to these parts.

It’d better to consult your doctor to learn how many calories to burn while cycling to reach your personal goals because your baseline of calorie burning depends on your gender, weight, age, and other factors.

Take note that don’t cycling no more than 60 minutes a day.

According to NCBI, vigorous exercise over 60 minutes/day or 5 hours/week probably causes some side effects on your cardiovascular health.

Treadmill

To lose a pound of fat, you will have to burn 3,500 calories and hitting a treadmill is a good option.

This device is super- convenient because you don’t have to find the time, get changed and go outside. The best part is you can wear anything that makes you feel comfortable to exercise on it.

Investing in a treadmill is much cheaper than a one-year gym membership but lasts much longer. And you can hit it 24/7 whenever getting free time, even just 5 or 10 minutes.

Regardless of your personal level of fitness or what the weatherman says, you can get in the way of your fat-burning ambition immediately.

When choosing a treadmill, I recommend considering a built-in calorie counter. According to many experts, this tool is very accurate or you can online treadmill calculator to track the number of calories that you have burned.

For a beginner, it’s not necessary to buy a full-sized treadmill, just a small under desk model is good enough. Not to say that it is suitable for people living in small apartments or in a tight budget.

To learn more about how to choose this device, this ultimate guide will help you.

Stationary bike

How to keep cycling if the weatherman says it is going to rain/storm today, the roads are repairing, or the environment is so pollutant to go outside?

The solution is a turbo trainer.

It’s a stationary device to keep your “real” bicycle in place, allowing for indoor cycling. Or if you don’t have a bike, my advice is a static exercise bike.

The biggest benefit from this device is the same calories burned while cycling outside and health performance improvements but way superior because now, you can enjoy it in the comfort of your own house.

For example, you can pedal away while watching TV or listening to your favorite songs without caring if other people will love it.

Stationary bikes come in various additional function options, which results in different price points. You should consider the available space in your house and your fitness needs to choose the right one. Are you having some pain or problems with your knees? Are you worrying that regular exercises will take some toils on your knees? Then you can do exercise in the water. Also using stationary bikes and elliptical machines, you can get a good level of aerobic exercises that are very soft on your knee joints.

TV shows or Exercise videos/clips

The cheapest way out of a bunch – following exercise clips that you’ll find a lot on YouTube or Instagram.

Investing in exercise videos in discount stores or looking for free workout videos in public libraries isn’t a bad idea.

There are also many health and fitness TV shows relating to yoga, Tae Bo, and step aerobics.

The biggest advantage of exercise clips/videos is your own privacy, which means you can exercise whenever you have time.

To get more motivation as well as encouragement to get the most out of your workout, you should ask a family member, your loved ones, or friends to join you.

Like swimming, a 30-minute exercise course in the morning before breakfast is very efficient in burning fat.

Play with pets/kids

Sound weird but this solution is very effective, I promise!

Whether you’re a parent of an 8-year-old kid or some dogs, one general point is they get endless energy. An hour playing with them at the park will help you burn even the same fat amount as you do at the gym.

Not to say that both of you and your kids/pets will have a relaxing time outdoor to have fun. You will be exercise and relieve stress while your kids/pets play around. Not to say that both of you can get even closer – more than one stone killing two birds. You can also read the central vacuum powerhead this article I think it will help keep your home clean.

To make your time with your kids/pets more interesting and exercising, I suggest adding some fun games or activities to the mix.

Conclusion

Even the most basic one-year gym membership costs no under $500 so why not find more creative ways to keep yourself in shape, whether on your own or with your family.

With all the great solutions listed above, I hope you will find the right one to work out without going to the gym. Thanks for reading!
